Obverse: Louis XV round LudoXVoRex Christianissimus (King Louis XV of Christianity). Reverse: The Kings Palace This Medal was struck for the dedication of the King's palace which became The Louvre. Louis was a weak ruler much influenced by his mistresses, Madame de Pompadour and Madame du Barry. He led France into the War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48) and the Seven Years' War (1756-63), which led to the loss of the French territories in India, Canada, and the West Indies. |
