Description |
This intricately carved netsuke depicts a woman clothed in flowing scarves, beating a hand drum and standing on one foot. The wings on her back suggest that she is an angel or tennin. Tennin are female inhabitants of the Buddhist heaven. Clothed in flowing scarves and robes of feathers, they sometimes fly through the air carrying musical instruments. |
