Description |
The image portrayed here is of the Assumption of Mary. All but one of the 17 large miniatures (full page illustrations) in the Chevalier Hours are due to the Boucicaut Master (c. 1400-1420). Many manuscript writers are unknown by their real names but have gained pseudonyms for their great works. The name, Boucicaut Master is inspired by a book of hours commissioned by Jean II le Meingre de Boucicaut, Marshal of France. The Boucicaut master was one of the most influential manuscript illumination artists in Paris in the early 1400's. According to some researchers, he supervised a team of artists who were commissioned to produce manuscripts by wealthy members of society. |
